INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT FOR NIDO STUDENT. CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT
A Designer at Heart is in charge of the design of communal areas for a student accommodation in Porto, Portugal. The scheme will handover in 2021.
We introduced Nido’s trademarks, water fountain, Smile Plastics tables. Thanks to the space availability we had the opportunity to also introduce additional features like a big stage seating area within the lounge for TED talks and events, a dedicated wellness room, and a yoga room next to the gym. Some of the study rooms are flexible and can be turned into classrooms that can be rented out to universities for various courses. Allowing this flexibility meant using a different sockets layout and non-fixed desks among other expedients.
Tawny is a large newly built project in Porto, Portugal. It is one of the largest projects we developed, with just the communal areas covering 1288 sqm. For this concept, we found inspiration from Portugal’s traditional materials and colours. We made extensive use of Portuguese Azulejo tiles and wooden elements to incorporate geometries and clean lines. We set the overall mood through calming and earthy colours and added dynamism with mix and match in some areas like the PDR. As we worked on two separate buildings the challenges were various. Maintaining a cohesive design for the same spaces in the two buildings (Receptions, PDRs, Study Rooms, Lounges) without being repetitive was one. Then, filling such a large space and properly deal with potential acoustic issues were too.
