Hello Design lovers! Today I want to introduce a topic that interests me a lot and I consider it really important as an interior designer. I want to do it in a slightly different way though.
I will directly talk about it instead of writing. In the video at the bottom of the page, I discuss Interior Design Concept. More specifically, the ideas that lie at the basis of any project and dictate the designer’s choices. Many nice or beautiful cues put together without a common thread will inevitably end up losing meaning and strength. Starting with a cohesive idea instead, ensures establishing a theme throughout the entire project. I consider this factor to be absolutely crucial for any interior design concept.
This is something we always try to do at A Designer at Heart, and so, I brought an example directly from our first project for which you can see all the photos here. I am talking about Zernike, the student accommodation we designed in Groningen, Netherlands for Nido Student.
The process starts by looking at ways to bring some local vibe into the design in order to make it unique. This is important not only from an aesthetic point of view but also for the students’ living experience.
For Zernike, everything started from the artist Hendrik Werkman and a group of architects, identified as Dutch Expressionists, with a strong socialist view, that designed many buildings in the city. We decided to implement colours and visual elements from this art movement, which got us to the current interior design.
Have a look at the video below. I hope you’ll find it inspiring and useful! Let us know what you thought about it and if you use a different approach for your interior design concepts.
